Now if I install DVDFab again is that a clean install? It's trialware/demoware (yes I got DVDFab and not the platinum demo) and in my experience their uninstallers are crippled so as to keep track of your efforts to bypass its registration, on the assumption you might do so. Haven't even gotten to code and I'm tripping. Did I need to do all that, or by "run it a couple times" does that just mean start it and quit, start it and quit? I wasn't sure if I needed to rip DVDs with it, but I figured to capture all of its logs and whatnot, I ought to use the program at least once in both its modes. I've uninstalled DVDFab (and deleted the backups it made of those 2 DVDs). and it won't let me take the 2nd shot.Įither my mistake was rebooting, or when I did the 1st shot, I just did Shot, not Shot and Save. (It can't read my Donnie Darko DVD, so the program's not nearly as clever as it seems to think, but that's beside the point.) I had it to 'single movie' mode of Count of Monte Cristo and 'full DVD' mode of Die Hard. Per the instructions I ran it a couple times. I ran RegShot and had it look at the C drive and took the 1st shot. Somebody else wants it and, based on what it says it does, I guess it'll be useful to some people.Īlright, so I got the portable NIS editor, NSIS and the two recommended plugins, Regshot, and a couple other utilities. I don't use the program but figured, why not. It was suggested I start with DVDFab Decrypter since it's a bit smaller of a project. I really want to do Deus Ex (game) but figured I'd start small, or smaller. The same content may be accessed from multiple paths in the menus.OK, I decided to try my hand at the wizardry of making a portable app. You would also probably need to keep a map of sectors already ripped while traversing the disc so that you don't rip the same sectors multiple times. HandBrake uses this to recursively walk the menus when searching for the main title of the disc. īasically the patch allows you to duplicate the state of dvdnav (take a snapshot) so that you can return to that state later. The "recursive" part is something dvdnav can't do in it's current state, but I created a patch that would allow this (which was submitted to the dvdnav mailing list but hasn't made it's way into svn yet). One possible way to do this is to recursively follow every possible path through the menus to see what content they lead to, then rip all the content you run into this way. I've thought about using dvdnav to create such a ripper. The challenge would be using libdvdnav in such way that no useful content is left out, such as extras, audio commentaries or interactive 'tour around the set' features, like Van Helsing's (2004) castle tour.īTW DVDFab has a similar feature called PathPlayer. All of my Arcoss/corrupted toc protected DVDs play succesfully with VLC (I don't have AnyDVD installed). Since the protections insert disc errors in parts of the disc that don't contain any playable data and thus are never accessed during playback (Arcoss, Ripguard), or insert phantom files that are never accessed during playback too (corrupted toc), libdvdnav can defeat these protections. But if you know something, please please post. In fact, the only programs that I know that can defeat these two protections (and don't change the container/format) are AnyDVD and DVD Fab. The problem is with DVDs that have Arcoss and corrupted TOC, which insert errors in the disc that cause programs like K9 and DeCSS to choke badly. If I wanted to copy the DVDs of my collection which utilize only CSS (and no Arccos or corrupted TOC), then even the ancient DeCSS would do the job. The main problem with K9 copy is that it doesn't defeat modern copy protections like Arccos and Corrupted TOC, which is exactly the kind of protections I want to beat, because they make two of my standalones act weird (CSS is not a problem, as it plays fine even in very old standalones, because it's part of the spec). Its open source (only linux, afaik), and can decrypt, and burn on either a -DL disc or shrink it to fit a single layer disc.
